The new Summit Pharmaceuticals International Corporation has made a fresh start following the integration in April 2006 of the business line of SC Biosciences Corporation that handles instruments for drug research and discovery, and following the merger in October 2006 between SPI, which has worked in the area of drug discovery and development support, and Summit Medi-Chem, Ltd., (SML), a company specializing in pharmaceuticals and chemicals. This integration and merger have established a means of providing customers with high-quality services for both software and hardware in the area of drug discovery and development, as well as for satisfying the needs of various customers in the healthcare field in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary manner.
Recently, the pharmaceuticals industry has been seeing the battle for corporate survival intensifying on a global level, and the rate of business reorganization has been accelerating to withstand this competition. Under these circumstances, even companies' strategies for drug discovery and development are liable to be determined based on corporate scale. This raises a concern that the strategies may diverge from the needs of individual patients.
