As a trading company, SPI’s major strength is its internal labs, API Laboratory and the Yokohama Support Center. This internal facility enables SPI to promptly and flexibly handle all inquiries from customers and provide consistent support.

API Laboratory supports high quality drugs
SPI’s API Laboratory is located in Kanagawa Science Park in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. It plays an important role in testing APIs imported by SPI for conformance to the required quality specifications before sale and delivery to customers. At the API Laboratory, dedicated staff perform quality evaluations of APIs using analytical instruments that are conformant to applicable laws and regulations. In addition to product release tests and setting specifications and test methods, the Laboratory also shares the test results with API manufacturers and makes proposals for improvement, thereby contributing to further quality improvement of APIs.

Technological support until market launch
To introduce APIs that match customer needs, the API Laboratory performs quality evaluations, including quality comparisons among API manufacturers and obtaining additional information. The Laboratory also provides support for drug applications, such as setting specifications and test methods, as well as validation of test methods.
Product release tests
The API Laboratory performs GMP product release tests for many APIs. The Laboratory provides input to API manufacturers when necessary, thereby establishing a structure that enables stable supply.
Yokohama Support Center: Supporting Cutting-Edge Bio Research
The Yokohama Support Center (located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) supports the research activities of pharmaceutical companies, universities, and other pharmaceutical research institutions through the demonstration of research instrument, as well as the repair and maintenance. In the field of life science research, the demands for research instruments are becoming more advanced and complex. The performance of them can often directly influence the results of experiments and the role played by instrument is extremely important. Taking these circumstances into consideration, the Yokohama Support Center provides comprehensive support for our customers, from consultation about instrument introduction to repairs.

Demonstration of instruments
SPI provides cutting-edge in vivo imaging and analysis instruments imported from around the world to the research institutions of pharmaceutical companies, universities, etc. The demonstration using the actual instruments are also performed at our Yokohama Support Center. We also perform marketing activities by promptly collecting information on next generation research instruments and reagents and provide them to researchers in Japan, and ultimately contributing to the development of Japanese bioscience research field.
Repair and maintenance
Utilizing the Sumitomo Corporation Group’s proprietary global network, SPI imports cutting-edge research instruments from around the world and markets them in Japan. SPI also appoints dedicated staff engaged in the repair and maintenance of these instruments. SPI provides comprehensive support for customers’ research activities through a one-stop service structure, including application and other support services.
